See Sean Rice Stall - Claypot Fish Head I

Tagged at S$18, we got a generous portion of fish head braised with mixed veggies, pieces of roasted pork and egg tofu in tasty gravy.

See Sean Rice Stall - Sambal Kangkong

The kangkong we ate today was rather different from the hot and spicy sambal. It was flavoured with tomato ketchup and was a little sweet in taste.

Eng Seng Restaurant, Joo Chiat Place, Singapore - Black Pepper Crabs

Black pepper crabs, as its name suggests, beside the rampant use of the black pepper and yet not overpowering, the rest of the ingredients remained as mystery to us. ER said there was generous use of wine, Rika suspected marmite was used and I guessed there was seafood sauce in it. Anyway, a check on the comments online said plum sauce was used. With all that said, black pepper crabs from this eatery were meaty, fresh, flavourful and delicious though the sauce has a hint of sweetness, a marked difference from all the black pepper crabs we had tried. Thumbs up! The sauce was smooth and really unique!

Eng Seng Restaurant, Joo Chiat Place, Singapore - Mee Goreng

Mee Goreng: Dinner treats by ZK: This was yummy noodles stir-fried with both chilli and tomatoes sauces with vegetables and seafood. We had already tucked in half a plate before this photo was taken.

Eng Seng Restaurant, Joo Chiat Place, Singapore - The Queue

We were just standing behind this queue; there were more than 20 people ahead of us. We waited for about an hour to be seated and didn't have to wait long for food because dishes were ordered while we were queuing and ZK had placed ordered for the crabs by phone way ahead.

To the eatery, it is a practical approach: Patrons are welcome to order the crabs in advance but no reservation for table. Customers are served on first come first served basis.

KL Trip - Supper @ Kuchai Lama Food Court - Butter Cream Crabs

After a visit to brother YF's home, we went out for supper. This was part of the seafood treat we ate. The butter cream crabs shown here were delicious and meaty.

Thank you for waiting while I took some photos of this meal!

KL Trip - Supper @ Kuchai Lama Food Court - Ginger Wine Lala

Ginger wine "lala": This seafood is not easy to find in Singapore. It is a dish we love and must have since brother YF introduced it to us years ago when we had dinner together. So far, it is only available in a food stall in Hougang. Prepared differently, cooked with a sambal sauce. I have yet to buy the uncooked ones.

Today we had supper with brother YF, sister-in-law JD and sister SD at Kuchai Lama Food Court which opens until 2 AM. The choices of food offers here are so varied. I think we have to make many trips here to try even the best!

Just like sister SD said, “The spicy soup is not creamy enough." I would love this dish if it was more "lemak". For the 1st time I found strips of bean puffs in curry fish.

KL Trip - Lunch @ Madam Kwan's - Beef Rendang

Beef Rendang

KL Trip - Lunch @ Madam Kwan's

This was lunch with sister SD, a treat by Rika. Sambal long beans were good but, beef rendang here is absolutely delicious and irresistible! That prompted Rika to make a 2nd order. The desserts were tried, golden dream and chendol, were just average.

The day began with a dim sum treat for breakfast by ZK at a shop, which was a short drive from sister SD’s home. Thereafter we went for shopping till late evening. The sales were on and Rika managed to get a few good buys coupled with a good discount on a bag for LY.

KL Trip - Dinner @ Kuchai Lama Food Court - Spring Rolls

Yummy Popiah / Spring Rolls~

KL Trip - Dinner @ Kuchai Lama Food Court - Fried Bread

Seen here are fried bread that was eaten dipping with crab gravy and yummy clay pot chicken rice with salted fish which Rika had requested. Her uncle SL went to ordered it for her.

KL Trip - Dinner @ Kuchai Lama Food Court - Sweet And Sour Crabs

The whole journey to KL took 5 hours. It was drizzling on arrival at sister SD’s home so; we had to wait for the rain to stop before going out to Kuchai Lama Food Court for dinner. The food especially “gingers wine lala” that we intended to order from a particular stall was closed for the day [Thursday].

Anyway, there are so many choices at this open-air food court. The sweet and sour crabs with egg sauce that sister SD recommended was delicious and meaty. Today, dinner of crabs with fried roti/bread, sambal stingray, clay pot chicken rice and popiah/spring rolls had satisfied our palates.

This food court opens until 2 AM in the morning. I was told the crowds of dinners get thicker as night falls.

Make a guess what’s for supper? Brother-in-law went out to buy our favourite “hei mian” :) That’s stir-fried thick noodles, a Malaysian specialty. Regrettably I have forgotten to take pictures of it!
